Jan re-posted an old story illustrated with webcam pics from my past. I need to remind myself to take 3 minutes and re-read it once a month.

I posted a couple more wrds entries.

email just sent:

Hi Grandpa!
Sorry I couldn't make it over for soup dinner tonight. I was on a syndicated radio show in Australia!!! I was talking about the "digital intimacy" things we talked about in the hot tub.

So as it played in each time zone, people from across the world would stop in to my chatroom and ask me questions, share ideas, etc. It was a wondeful experience of our small, small, small, small, world.

I'd like to make another date to come soak. Hope to be in touch soon.
I LOVE YOU!
-John

If you are a Jeff Noon fan, there is some fun vurt feather info online.

I'm gonna be on Triple J radio today in Australia. Sweet, mate!

Happy Birthday, Dlove!

Wow. Ben Brown is my Yoda. Genius. He made me laugh harder reading something than I have....EVER.
PLUS I have been inspired by his Daily Video shows. I <3 Ben Brown

WTF!? The US govt. is buying ads trying to convince the Superbowl-viewing public that my nickle bag is funding the Terrorists? Fuck. In this post-Enron world, buck-passing is starting to piss me off. Why can't leaders show some sack and take some fucking responsibility. Why must we spin everything? (via Metafilter)

"Feel The Love" Radio today at 5 Pacific.

1.29.2002

I totally dig Perry Ferrel's site. It has some similarities with cockybastard.com. Okay, okay...I covet his site and purrr at his feet.

1.28.2002

if you are wondering what is up with CitizenX, we are having our second Community meeting at 8pm tonight. (Last week's meeting will be replayed at 7.)

The CX terms of service need some updating, but they still make me giggle:
"If you're being a jerk, we have the right to de-activate your account and put gum in your hair."

I'm testing an
Amazon affiliate link as a way to raise money for CX. I.e. Buy a webcam!

What a day.

MissM and I went looking for apartments. I got so frustrated I hovered on the edge of tears and rage. If anyone here is friends with MissM, give her a hug. Its no picnic being my girlfriend.
My poverty level income is finally impacting my life. The living environment I envision for myself seems to be out of my budget. I need to lower my expectations or raise the amount of "for money" work I do.

Then, on the way home, we stopped by the grocery store and witnessed a miracle. Strong words you say? Well, what would YOU call checking out of the store without ever facing a human being!? They let you scan your own groceries and pay via ATM. The store coulda been run by robots. When we put bannanas on the scanner, IT KNEW what type of produce it was. In the future, I may be living in a shithole...but if I have access to magical produce-sensing robotic grocery clerks...well, I'll always be a rich man.

1.26.2002

I'm making some sticker/bookmarks to bring to SXSW and I'm having the hardest time deciding on a design. Beefcake? Wackiness? Seriousness? Poto? Drawing? Here's the latest front and back

IN 1934, nude statutes were erected in front of a justic e dept building. In 2002, Ashcroft had them covered by draperies 'cause he didn't like being photographed in front of nudie statues. Yay Progress!!!

I saw the next in the "Sex2K" series on MTV. It was on escorts and I thought it was fantastic.
If the Globalgasm one is anything like it, I will be stoked. Of course, with the SNL and Jay Leno letdowns, I'm not getting my hopes up.

test:

1.25.2002

I'm looking through a compute catalog and see this Pinnacle Systems video system. You can recording AVI movies onto blank CDs that can be read by a DVD player.

??? That sounds pretty cool. If it works, I could make a DVD from video footage and distribute it for cheap. HellloooOOOO Home Porn!

(Hmmmm... it looks like the recordings only work with about half of the DVD players out there)

Had lunch with my brother and then visited with the old crew from CollegeClub.com. I miss working with such a smart and funny group of people. Not enough to get a job being somewhere at 8 in the morning, but I do miss the people and environment.

Last night I dreampt I went to Burning Man and forgot comfortable shoes.

I posted 2 new Wrds.

I watched The Fifth Element tonight. I realized I had never seen the beginning. I loved it! Although, for the firts time that I can remember, the soundtrack really detracted from my experience. I thought the music was noticably slower paced than the action in the movie.

I realize that sometimes music is used incongruosly on purpose (like in Batman...or Resevoir Dog's torture scene.) But these were action sequences. I found myself wishing for a DVD with a fast techno soundtrack option for playback.

1.24.2002

There is a new photo gallery of Halloween at TRH. Adults only since things got a little wacky.

1.23.2002

Radio show today at 5. (topic: Porn convention, CX, Grandma in hospital, more.) I may even try to play some clips form teh footage we shot at the convention.

CX Community Meeting at 6:30.

Both are open to all.

While you're waiting, check out this tongue. She'll be 18 in 6 years.

1.22.2002

Grandma was doing great. She has tubes in her chest and kept making jokes about "mainlining."

Today MissM and I sent in our money orders for Burning Man tickets.

Radio show tomorrow at 5.

1.21.2002

I'm getting ready to visit my Grandma in the hospital. I've never been to a hospital to visit someone. I wish I could send love via webcam or email. But my anxiety about a hospital is far outweighed by my love for her. Time to suck it up.

Today we celebrate MLK.
My grandfather worked with Martin Luther King Jr.
I remember as a child seeing a picture of the 2 of them together. It reminded me that great men were real. Great men walked among us. And great men are within us all. (substitute women if that matches your chromosonal leanings.)

Grandpa's memories of MLK

1.20.2002

Tale of the Week: Halcyon Loves Chloe at the Porn Convention.

note:link fixed. SORRY!

FINALLY saw Lord of the Rings. I wonder if I would have liked it more if I saw it sooner. Enjoyable, but it was no "Monsters, Inc." ;)

1.19.2002

Today's disappointment:
I finally got a hold of the Jay Leno monologue where he mentions Globalgasm. Turns out he didn't mention me or Globalgasm. But some "Global Orgasm Day" based in St Louis. *sigh* I feel a bit like a chump...and a bit like I've been lying to people. Not intentionally, but I have been spreading an untruth. My apologies. I need to edit a number of web pages and Word Docs to remove the Leno quote.

1.18.2002

I saw this on Evhead:

Sorry for the lack of posts. Getting CX up has been my focus. I feel like I just finished finals. My room is a mess. Dishes are everwhere.

In super-duper news: I found my wallet!

I had been without credit cards or licence for the past 3 weeks. That can be a challenge for Vegas road trips.

Speaking of Vegas, I have much to share...but I'll start with al ink to XXXChurch.com. They were a much of ministers who had a booth at the convention. Super friendly and judgemental. But if want help curbing your appetite for porn, they'll help.
I was impressed with the design of their site. I bet they would be cool guys if they just got laid. (KIDDING!)

1.17.2002

Whew! CitizenX 1.0 has launched.
Initially, there are only a few public areas. SO MUCH more work to do.

1.16.2002

getting closer to re-launching CitizenX.com. No radio show today.

1.15.2002

Speaking of TheRealHouse, Kelly just finsihed the new TRH redesign! Yay, Kelly!!

I missed ben brown's post about staying at therealhouse.

From the CX Graduation address: "The Legend of Moo." (500K, RealMedia)

While I'm working on the new Citizenx.com, why don't you go scan your weiner.

I gave a graduation address at the CitizenX Byte Mitzvah celebration. I told the story of the barnyard game. At one point, everyone in the chatroom was typing,"MoooOOOOOOO!"

1.14.2002

Today is the last day of the CitizenX beta. We will close the site tomorrow. Purge the database. And re-open fresh in a few days.

1.13.2002

The site I designed for my friend, Ken, is today's Cool site of the Day. Vote for us!

UPDATE: our current score is a 4.3/10. *pout*

After going without health insurance for a year (but paying $80/month in prescriptions) I tried again to get insured. My application was deliclined this weekend. So nobody beat me up or hit me with their car, okay?

My Saturday at the porn convention was AWESOME.

MissM and I got to meet and interview some of my favorite make pornstars.

Had dinner with a fun group that included the inspirational Nina Hartley.

Met digital friends face to face for the first time and made new friends, too.

And I had a FABULOUS outfit of screaming pink and orange.

Favorite interaction not caught on tape:

After a really fun interview with Chloe, I gave her my card (it has a tasteful pic of me naked on it).

"Mmmmm. You have a nice body. Do you have a big dick?"

"Eh. Average."

"Then its perfect for anal sex!"

1.11.2002

I was packing my pink vinyl pants and got a call from my mom. My grandmother was diagnosed today with Lukemia. She starts chemo on monday.

From a big picture perspective, I know that everything will be as it should. And that life and death are normal. But It crushes me to think of her scared and in pain.

Whew. This has been a crazy year so far.

I'm driving to Las vegas tonight to catch the last day of a porn convention.

from last year's convention:

1.10.2002

I stumbled on some old "wrds" that aren't linked anymore.

This one has sorta become my personal manifesto.

The Ben Brown Show rules. A new show every day. No archives. 8 megs of Quicktime fun. today: "Poor people ride the bus! I'm not poor...I mean, I have no money...but I'm an Internet Professional!"

Me giving a 5 minute RealVideo explantion of the CitizenX evolution (1.3 Megs)

1.9.2002

Wow. The outpouring from people regarding CX closing is incredible. I was expecting to hear, "You're closing? Bastards!"
But I'm being flooded with love. I just burst into tears.

(AND I finally got Moveable Type installed.)

Radio show today at 5. But CitizenX is getting hammered pretty hard right now.

I write this as 140,000 emails are being sent out announcing the closing of citizenX.com.

We will start from scratch on a smaller scale. Smarter. I am excited about the future, but still sad about saying goodbye. It feels a bit like High School Graduation.

I cried at High School graduation. Cried so hard I had to walk away form all the picture-taking and just sit against a wall.

I thought It was the end of my friendships. The end of the best years of my life.

Of course, I was wrong. I went away to college, and, without trying, I managed to keep in touch with the important ones.

Now I know it always works out.

So even though this is a big transition, too, it *will* all work out.

((HUG))

1.8.2002

My friend, Air, is launching his Pod Collective. Some amazing artwork from some groovy souls.

fuck.

Blogger publishing is down. So I decided to try to install moveabletype. After spending 3 hours with almost no progress, I realized I don't know enough about perl or UNIX to do it. How frustrating. CHMODE?

update: well, I installed another FTP program and now have access to the chmode command. Sheesh. Next challenge?

update
another 2 hours. This is frustrating. I think I need to start the install from scratch.

It has been beautiful in San Diego. I even nude sunbathed yesterday while re-reading my favorite book, Vurt.

On an unrelated note, there a couple of newer posts up in wrds

I am not getting sick. I am not getting sick. I am not getting sick.

"One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing
star."
- Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

Thank you, Jan.

Medical Question: I have a *real* hard time drinking water. I drink mostly Gatorade. Is there a better water substitute that tastes sweet?

1.6.2002

I was watching MTV last night and saw another episode on the Sex2K series. The "Plushies" episode. My favorite part was how these people who enjoy making love to others in mascot uniforms refer to everyone else as "mundanes."

I also watched the Tom Green Cancer Special. I generally am not a huge fan of his "humor at the expense of others" routine. But when he let himself be vulnerable and turned the joke on his own cancerous testical, I was impressed.

Have you Seen "Legally Blonde"? Man, I just loved that movie. Seriously. I was practically cheering at the screen.

1.4.2002

Just got off the phone with MTV.

Apparently, the standards committee made them cut out the on-screen URLs from the "Naked on the Net" documentary. They didn't want kids to visit Globalgasm.com or TheRealHouse.com. So the only way people will find us is if we said the URL aloud in the clips they used.
Bummer.
They also said Feb or early Spring for the air date.

I bought a new car!!

Well, new for me. I bought my mom's '93 BMW. The cockymobile version 1.0 is at 168,000 miles and needs to be treated gently. The new car is sturdy enough for longer journeys in 2002.

Now I need to go car stereo shopping.

Anyone have connections to the AVN awards? I'll be in Vegas that weekend and I'd like to cover it as press.

1.3.2002

Look what I missed: {Fray} posted 12 stories reflecting on the past 12 months. My story, The Surreal World is March.

I got a kick out of the porn reviews at The UK Independent Porn Review.

An excerpt:

"I propose that the rate at which our society emancipates its females can be accurately mapped against the scale on which men consume video footage of girls eating other men's sperm; A final ditch hapless attempt at maintaining the "lead" in this inevitable post-modern gender power struggle, the balancing effect of socio-sexual equalising resulting in this oddly terrifying phenomenon being a staple of mainstream male orientated pornography."

1.2.2002

I'm a PEZ dispenser!

Radio show today at 5.
Well, the show has changed slightly into a 1 hour webcam w/streaming audio improv descent into madness. You are both invited AND to blame. ;)

Today the topic will be 2001 reflections, 2002 hopes, and globalgasms.

Wow. Globalgasm was intense. Seventy people in the chatroom. Countless others participating away from computers. I almost cried during my climax. THANK YOU for sharing the experience with me. sleep time now.
